What 180 days is used for
A hundred and eighty days is close to half a year, and it is the rolling window in the Schengen 90/180 rule. It also appears in tax residency tests, visa conditions, and longer warranty and claim periods.
It is not exactly six months: six calendar months is 181 to 184 days. Rules about passport validity, for example, are usually written in months, so check which unit your rule uses.
How the date is counted
The start date is day 0. Adding 180 days moves forward one calendar day at a time, through weekends, holidays, month ends and leap days, and the date you land on is the answer.
Answer = start date + 180 days
